Real Madrid – Real Sociedad and Athletic – Barcelona, in rooms

first_imgThe previous rounds of the Cup was presented as a balm for the complicated beginning of 2020 that is being lived in Can Barça. The dismissal of Valverde as a coach after the fiasco of the Super Cup, the arrival of Setién and the criticisms of his style, together with the loss of the leadership in the League, presents the Cup as an appointment that should not be taken baladí if you do not want to increase tension In front will be Athletic, who arrives after beating Tenerife in the penalty shootout, second consecutive round that manages to pass from eleven meters which has been 23 times champion of this tournament.Granada is one of the First teams that has struggled most throughout the tournament against teams of lower category, but still managed to survive. He has survived three extensions in four rounds. Los Cármenes will receive Valencia, the current champion of the tournament. And the Mirandés, the only Second of the draw, will have to measure the Villarreal, which comes to eliminate the Lightning.Copa del Rey quarter-final matchesReal Madrid – Real Sociedad. Check available tickets.Athletic – Barcelona. Check available tickets.Granada-ValenciaMirandés-VillarrealThe four winners in this round will manage to get into the semifinals, qualifying where the matches will already be played round (February 11 and 12) and back (March 3 and 4). There will be no conditioners of any kind, nor a field factor if the Mirandés manages to qualify. The first to leave in the draw will act as a local in the first game and a visitor in the second. The draw of the Cup has led to dueling of dint in quarters, a round in which the final can almost be seen. Madrid will have to face each other with Real Sociedad and Barcelona will face Athletic. A duel between the teams with the most titles in this competition (30 versus 24). Valencia, the current champion, will have to beat Granada on its way to revalidate its crown. Mirandés and Villarreal will face each other for a semifinal ticket. The quarterfinals will be played on days February 4, 5 and 6, also a single party. The First Division teams have finished with the modest ones, the big beneficiaries of this co-operation conversion, and they have reached seven teams this phase, although for this many of them fell (Sevilla, Atlético, Betis …). In the resistance to the First, the Mirandés, of Second Division, who has managed to classify this round is alone Placing the biggest face and with the dream of repeating the 2012 deed, getting into the semifinals. He will do it to his people, because that is how the draw conditioned him to the being of a smaller category. The Royal Society, which will have to visit the Santiago Bernabéu, gets in the only title that Zidane is missing. The French showcases are full of trophies conquered during his career as both player and coach, but the Cup is the only one that has been resisted in its two stages. For your peace of mind, Madrid arrives at the highest moment of the season, having overcome the turbulence of the first stages of the campaign, with a Super Cup lowering the arm and a leadership. The latter will have to defend him this Saturday against Atletico, a battle that will not be less and that could bring the fatigued targets to their appointment with the KO tournament. The Donostiarras have reached this round eliminating rivals of the First such as Osasuna and Espanyol.last_img read more

Minibus Union submits proposal for fare increase to Govt

first_imgPresident of the United Minibus Union (UMU), Eon Andrews, has submitted to the Ministry of Business a proposal intended to address the several woes of minibus operators.United Minibus Union President Eon AndrewsAndrews told Guyana Times that the proposal for a fare increase, among other things, was submitted to Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin on Monday.“We are saying that, ‘Yes, there are increases in many other things’. We are not basing our argument on fuel, because we don’t control that in this country,” he said on Monday. He said the union is engaging the Government so that the costs of several documents needed by motorists can be decreased.Along with the proposal for a fare increase, the UMU president noted that a proposal was also made for removal of the ban placed on used tyres among other things, so as to reduce the high maintenance costs of the vehicles.“We did not really like the idea of the new tyres, because they only lasting like six months, and they’re very expensive. We want to look at the tyres. There were a lot of 100 per cent increases in the last budget, you know, interest tax, licence, everything; (so we want to know) how they’re going to be able to help us. If they could reduce certain things, it would ease (the strain on persons), because we are more concerned that the consumer doesn’t have to carry this load,” the UMU head explained.Andrews expressed confidence the minister would look into the woes of minibus operators in a timely manner, given that the subject is in the spotlight. He, however, pointed out that if the minister does not give a response in a timely manner, he is certain that minibus operators, and even taxi drivers, would continue to strike.Fuel increaseThe cost of gasoline has significantly increased over the past few weeks, and countrywide, minibus drivers are protesting for an increase in fares, and are even demanding the same from commuters.Guyana Times understands that some drivers have been pasting notices in their vehicles demanding fare increase by as much as $40, and the NMU president has expressed views against this act.A much concerned Andrews said he understands that drivers operate in a free-market system, and so persons who are not willing to pay the increase will now have to make the decision to pay the increase or wait for law-abiding drivers. It was communicated earlier this month that minibus operators are unwilling to lower the proposed fare hike of $20 or $40 even if the price for gasoline is decreased, because they are faced with many burdensome expenditures, which are compounded by the fluctuating gas prices.Desperate to get the attention they need, drivers blocked the Vryheid’s Lust access road along the East Coast railway embankment. Several tyres were burnt, and an old car was set on fire to garner the attention needed, with the hope of having the fuel crisis addressed.Several protests were also organised by drivers of the various routes subsequent to this incident.Gas station prices for fuel have increased rapidly, from $215 per litre to prices ranging from $230 to $250 per litre. That situation continues as the Government remains indifferent and mum on the matter. Nevertheless, the Department of Public Information (DPI) has issued claims of price structures which appeared to be cheaper than what recent reports suggest. This came after the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana (FITUG) urged Government to act swiftly on the matter. The trade union body has said this sudden hike in fuel prices will burden consumers. In a strongly worded statement to the media, the union said Government must stop “turning a blind eye to what is taking place” and proactively act in the interest of people. However, Business Minister Dominic Gaskin had disclosed that the matter was still to be addressed by Cabinet.last_img read more

GPHC’s maternity ward to receive $50M upgrade

first_imgThe Maternity Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) is expecting a revamp of the facilities and capacity, with an injection of $50 million to conduct much-needed works. An artist’s impression of the upgraded maternity wing once completedFunded by the Guyana Lottery Company under the Canadian Bank Note, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday. The project features an increase in bed capacity by 27 per cent and a 40 per cent total space capacity. The construction works are pegged at some $31 million, while $19 million will be used to procure pertinent medical equipment.Chief Executive Officer of GPHC, George Lewis emphasised the importance of this initiative to reduce overcrowding at the facility. In 2017, there was a total of 8324 admissions to the maternity wing with 5515 deliveries. In 2018, some 8277 admissions were recorded with 5547 deliveries.“Quick mathematics would suggest that we deliver approximately 16 babies per day within the Georgetown Public Hospital. Because of the high amount of admissions and deliveries, we are constantly challenged to find in-patient beds, particularly between the periods of September to February when there are more deliveries,” Lewis said.Over the years, the maternity wing was modified to facilitate a few more beds, but this is always outnumbered by expectant mothers. Additionally, there are no rooms should patients require isolated treatment.“To address this situation, the Corporation included in its 2019 budget, additional extension works. The first extension was in 2016. While it provided for critical care services such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the expansion did not alleviate the issues of overcrowding. In both the prenatal and postnatal wards, there are about 75 beds. Currently, there are no facilities for the isolation of patients who require special needs and attention,” the CEO explained.Meanwhile, Public Health Minister, Volda Lawrence posited that the services offered by the maternity wing will be improved. Negative statistics are also expected to be lowered. However, many attempts at lowering these statistics have proven futile in the past. From the Canadian Bank Note, Managing Director Tracey Lewis informed that her agency will continue to manage the facility upon completion.“The Guyana Lottery Company would also like to commit to the general maintenance of this facility, as we know that this will become an important factor after the works are completed…This expansion will enhance and complement the existing maternity services and provide additional accommodation, private rooms, office space and specialist services,” she noted. The GPHC is Guyana’s main referral medical institution.last_img read more

Swansea boss Monk stands by Moses cheat claims

first_img1 Swansea manager Garry Monk stands by the controversial comments about Stoke winger Victor Moses he made following the Jacks’ 2-1 defeat at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.Monk was contacted by the Football Association on Thursday to “seek his observations” after he claimed the on-loan Chelsea flyer cheated to win a penalty for the Potters’ equaliser, and also criticised referee Michael Oliver for making a “disgusting” decision to award the spot-kick.The FA has yet to decide whether to take disciplinary action against Monk, who has until October 27 to reply, but the Swansea manager said his views have not changed since last weekend.“I’m happy to give them observations and I will do that,” Monk said, speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s home game against Leicester.“What I’ll say will be between me and authorities but I will speak honestly about how I felt at the time and what I said.“They’ll want to go over it and go through correct procedures, which is fine, but I stand by my comments because it was plain to see for everyone.“I spoke about how I felt at the time in terms of Victor Moses and the situation and everyone will have their own judgements.“But it was clear for me to see and I stand by my comments.” Swansea manager Garry Monk last_img read more

NORTHERN SHOPPERS BACK IN DONEGAL, SAYS LEADING BUSINESSMAN

first_imgA local retailer has lashed out at what they term as the totally unfounded and negative press coverage especially concerning the proposed Vat increase of 2%.Much news coverage relates to the supposed negative impact the alleged increase will have  especially on pre Christmas shopping. Evolve Menswear and Formal Hire, headed by young local businessmen, JP and Mark Mc Closkey, point out that the increase, whilst expected has not yet been implemented and quite possibly will not take effect until next year. The Budget does not even take place until next week so shoppers can still avail of massive bargains in Letterkenny. Indeed shoppers will have no need to go North for their grocery shopping as groceries are still exempt from all forms of Vat.Indeed since opening their state of the art clothes shop, the McCloskey brothers along with all other retailers in the retail park are experiencing their best ever run in to Christmas.Sales are up massively year on year and thankfully the snow has stayed away this year. Other local retailers share the McCloskeys’ brothers optimism and feel confident that they too can see off any cross border competition. They point out that prices south of the border have fallen substantially in recent years and that our economy has become far more cost competitive. Prices have come down for every product and this together with the convenience of local shopping, the increase in the value of Sterling as against Euro means even better value. The McCloskeys aslo confirm a significant increase in the amount of Sterling being paid in their Evolve shop which is a ringing endorsement that the customer is coming North to South and not the reverse.Mark and JP know that times are extremely difficult for the shopper at present and are more than ever determined to deliver quality, value and service to their customers. “We have spent nearly five years talking about recession and it is far past time that we take charge of our own destiny and adopt a more positive approach to our own futures.”Strong words indeed—a clarion call for a Positive, Prosperous and Peaceful Christmas.© 2011 donegaldaily.com, all Rights ReservedThe copying, republication or redistribution of donegaldaily.com Content, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited by law. Fantasy Premier League tips: 10 set-piece takers you should sign

first_imgAs World Cup 2018 proved, set-pieces are becoming more and more important in football.Every club has a specialist, although some are much better than others and when it comes to Fantasy Premier League, these takers offer significant value. Tom Cairney (Fulham) – £5.0million 11 11 11 The German didn’t have a great campaign last time out but has a new boss and will want to prove critics in England and his homeland wrong. He’s never scored below 100 points and is now available at a cheaper price than ever before. For a man who is set to take corners and free-kicks we reckon the price is pretty decent and he could be a big hit. When he returns from his holidays, there will be plenty of Spurs fans clamouring for him to take more set-pieces. The right-back has rarely taken them but showed his talents at the World Cup – although he won’t have Harry Maguire to aim at this time. Christian Eriksen has also said he’s willing to share some of the duties but this means Trippier will miss out a lot, so be careful. 11 11 The Australian midfielder impressed in his first Premier League campaign and is set to be key again for the Terriers. He’s not only set to be on dead balls, but he should be taking penalties too. Maybe not quite the bargain he was last season, Gross is still set to take set-pieces on the south coast and could get around the 164 points he did in the Seagulls’ first Premier League campaign. He should be on free-kicks, corners, and penalties too if Glenn Murray doesn’t play. The Serbian international smashed home seven spot-kicks last season and while a similar tally is unlikely this term he’s a reliable pick, although he did miss one (against Manchester City). Can one of these set-pieces stars help you to glory? He didn’t quite live up to his 2016/17 form last season but he still notched 110 points, not bad if you have him as a substitute forward. He also scored two penalties last year and is more than capable at other set-pieces too. 11 11 It’s likely the ex-Norwich man will go straight into the first XI for the Foxes, playing behind Jamie Vardy. If this does happen he’ll also be a replacement for Riyad Mahrez on set-pieces. He was a main taker for the Canaries and will be a huge creative threat in open play too. The Cottagers have, rather impressively, hung onto the talented midfielder and as they go into their first season back in the Premier League he’s likely to be heavily involved at set-pieces, although Stefan Johansen will also seem some action in these areas. Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield) – £5.5million 11 Kieran Trippier (Tottenham) – £6million James Maddison (Leicester City) – £6.5million 11 Mohamed Elyounoussi (Southampton) – £6.5million Having a top dead ball taker in your squad will seriously increase your chances of getting more goals and assists – and this means a lot more points. So which stars should you be signing, or at the very least keeping an eye on? Find out below with our top tips.Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) – £8.5million 11 Keep tabs on this one and bear him in mind once the season begins. He does take set-pieces and is pretty handy but currently trying to work out who will do most of the deadball work at St Mary’s is proving tough. Joshua King (Bournemouth) – £6.5million 11 Okay, he missed a penalty last year so might not take those but with Barry Douglas sold to Leeds United he’s almost certainly going to be their set-piece superstar. Ruben Neves (Wolverhampton Wanderers) – £5million Pascal Gross (Brighton) – £7million Luka Milivojevic (Crystal Palace) – £6.5millionlast_img read more
