Two Maoists killed, three arrested
NAGPUR: Two alleged members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed and three others arrested in various parts of Bastar region of south Chhattisgarh on Monday.“An encounter took place between the Maoists and the District Reserve Guard (Special Anti-Maoist unit of Chhattisgarh police) in Rasatong forest between Gollapall and Bhejji village of Sukma district. It was an operation by the DRG team of Sukma. Two ‘uniformed’ male Maoists’ dead bodies were recovered after the encounter along with some weapons and ammunition,” a police officer said in a statement.The encounter took place when the DRG team reached the location of a Maoist camp in south Sukma forest. The DRG team have recovered one 12-bore rifle, one Bharmar (locally made gun), one wireless set, 13 detonators, codex wire, radio, solar plates and backpacks from the spot.Meanwhile, in two other incidents, two Maoists were arrested in Narayanpur district and one in Bijapur district of Bastar on Monday.“We have arrested two Maoists from Edka police station limits of Narayanpur,” said Naryanpur District Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh. He said they had warrants issued against them for murder of civilians, and damaging BSNL towers and hostels.The Maoist arrested in Basaguda area of Bijapur district was identified as Podium Mara. It was a joint operation of the Chhattisgarh police and the CRPF’s special anti-Maoist unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action).
