June DeckardJune Ella (Judy) Deckard, 83, passed away from colon cancer December 5, 2013, at her home with her family by her side in Oxford, KS. Judy and Leslie moved their family to Winfield, KS in 1953 where Leslie went to work for the Binney & Smith Crayola Factory where he worked for 33 years before his retirement in 1986.Their small family continued to grow with another son, Kenneth Wayne born in 1955 and another daughter, Cheryl Lynn in born in 1958. They moved the family to Oxford, KS in 1961 and were blessed with another daughter, Cecile Mae, in 1962. Judy and Leslie spent many years taking care of various family members who needed help. In 2003 they came home to Oxford to take care of Leslie’s health problems. I 2004 Leslie lost hisown battle with cancer. Judy continued to help care for family members in need until her own physical needs took precedence.Judy is survived by her sister, Alice Hilton of Phoenix, AZ; her daughters, Vickie Starlin and husband Marvin of Oxford, KS Cheryl Neal and husband Jesse of Arkansas City, KS, Cecile Hershberger and husband Ron of Newton, KS; her son Kenneth Deckard of the home, twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, her son, Dan Earl and her beloved husband of 57 years, Leslie. Judy worked for Rex’s Café for many years before going to work for TG&Y Stores. In 1966, Judy went to work for Gott Corporation as a foamer and then later in Quality Control until her retirement in 1987.center_img Judy was born December 9, 1929 in Denver, CO to Earl and Vera (Jussell) Luce. Judy moved with her parents and two older brothers, Donald and Andy, to Branson, MO in 1933. There her family grew with another brother, James, and two sisters, Alice and Hilda. Because times were hard Judy wanted to help her family and being tall for her age, she got a job as a waitress at the age of thirteen. Judy also helped with the USO during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Branson. Judy married Leslie Deckard on Friday, the Thirteenth of June 1947 in Arkansas. The couple moved to McAllen, TX where their first son, Dan Earl was born. In 1949, having moved back to Branson, their first daughter, Vickie Arlene, was born.last_img
