FINAL THOUGHTS: Men’s open

first_imgPrior to the start of the State of Origin series, the two captains of the men’s open teams Steve Roberts (New South Wales) and Daniel Withers (Queensland) shared their final thoughts.Steve Roberts on…The first game:“The nerves are starting to creep in but there is a good feeling amongst the boys. We are seeking redemption from the last time we played.”The 2012 series loss:“We’ve spoken more so about us and what we can do. I think we are masters of our own destiny. We talked about our attitude and getting that right.”The sky blue of New South Wales:“Whenever you put on a rep jersey, I always wear it with pride. That’s the feeling we are trying to distil in everyone within the team. It is up there with the fastest touch you will play, alongside the Trans-Tasman series. It is really exciting and the skill level out there will be on show.”Daniel Withers on…His team:“We are pumped and are really keen to go. We have got some really young guys who are just enthusiastic and are tearing at the bit to get out there and prove they are more than good enough.”Pressure of being defending champions and playing in Queensland:“At the end of the day you just have to take it as another game. For us it is about coming down tonight, turning up and make sure for 40 minutes we rip and tear, take care of a few things in our game plan and make the scoreboard in our favour.”Team’s preparation:“We had our last session a couple of weeks ago and it was incredibly sharp. I was probably the most sharpest session I’ve ever walked away from in my touch career. We are extremely excited and to see these young boys out there, and if they can bring their A-game, it will just be awesome.”State of Origin series:“You look at the rugby league guys and the New South Wales versus Queensland rivalry, nothing changes. It is probably the fastest game you will ever be involved in and to get out there, play at this level, against some of your mates and the best players in the world, there is no better stage to be running on.”There are plenty of ways to keep up-to-date with all of the latest results, news and information from the 2014 State of Origin.
