No deal in place to take Defoe back to Premier League, claims FC Toronto president

first_imgThere is NO deal in place for QPR and Newcastle target Jermain Defoe to return to England, according to FC Toronto president Tim Leiweke. It has been reported that Defoe, who joined Toronto on a four-year deal back in February, is already looking for an escape route back to the Premier League after supposedly struggling to settle at the MLS club.Leiweke has also previously said that the club will have no problem moving him on if he shows that he is not committed to Toronto.QPR and Newcastle, who are both in the market for forward recruits, were both heavily linked with the former Tottenham hitman during the summer transfer window but neither managed to bring him back to England. And now, according to Leiweke, Defoe is ready for the side’s final four games of the MLS campaign – and there is currently no plans for him to leave.Speaking at the Leaders in Football conference in London, Leiweke said: “He is fully committed to Toronto for the final four games of the season.“We will talk in December but there is currently no deal in place for him to leave.” 1 Jermain Defoe in action for Tottenham last_img read more
