Shreyas Iyer: I have ‘sealed’ number 4 spot in Indian batting order

Powered by Firework Although India have a strong batting and bowling options, they have always struggled for the number 4 position. They have tried several batsmen like Ambati Rayudu, Vijay Shankar, Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey and a few on that particular position but no one has really impressed apart from Shreyas Iyer who has done fairly well. Advertisement Shreyas IyerHe is confident that his consistent performances in the past one year will help him to cement his place in the most-debated number four position in white-ball cricket. Having tried many, India recalled the Mumbai batsman in the West Indies series after their semifinal loss to New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup.He justified his place in the West Indies series which earned him a place in their New Zealand tour earlier this year as well. Once again he showed his calibre and ended up being the highest run-getter with a hundred and two fifties in India’s 0-3 series whitewash. He amassed 217 runs – the most by an Indian in that place in a three-match bilateral series.Advertisement “If you have been playing for India at that position for a year now that means you have sealed it. There should be no more questions asked about it,” Shreyas Iyer said in an Instagram live session hosted by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. “When the debate was going on about No 4, performing at No 4 and completely sealing the position was really satisfying.”“But when you are playing for India, you need to be very much flexible at any position or whatever the team requires. I feel I can bat any position depending on the situation,” he again said. The young lad of Mumbai failed to make to the cut in the ICC Cricket World Cup squad. However, he was included in the Caribbean tour where his swashbuckling form left everyone amazed, including the captain Virat Kohli who later complimented Iyer saying he was “exactly the same” in his younger days.“It’s really a phenomenal feeling when he talks or compliments his teammates… He’s a role model for all the youngsters out there,” Iyer shared. “Whenever he goes out on the field it feels as if he’s playing his first game. He’s never tired, always energetic like a lion. You see a different body language when he enters the ground, something great to learn from him.”Not only this, he has impressed as a leader also while captaining Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He made his debut season in 2015 where he scored a whopping 439 runs while playing with a fractured index finger. He got the captaincy in the mid-way of the 2018 season from the veteran Gautam Gambhir and he led Delhi Capitals to their first playoffs in seven years in 2019 season as well.Keeping his free-flowing batting ability in mind, it wouldn’t be wrong saying that Shreyas Iyer can be a good choice for that place. If you like reading about MMA, make sure you check out MMAIndia.com Also, follow India’s biggest arm wrestling tournament at ProPanja.comALSO READ:Harbhajan Singh to begin his second innings with acting, shares movie posterRobin Uthappa reveals cricket was the only thing that probably kept him from ‘jumping off the balcony’ Advertisementlast_img read more
